Registration is now open for the only Credit Union Development Education (DE) training class in 2011, taking place April 6-13 in Madison, Wis. Attendees of the six-day total immersion experience will learn about credit unions’ social responsibility and domestic and international development through interactive education and professional networking.
DE training is open to everyone from new employees who need a credit union orientation to seasoned executives who need to recharge. Personally, DE changed my life. I went through the program in 2005, three months after starting in credit unions at the National Credit Union Foundation and still unsure if I was going to stick around – I was originally a temp looking for a full-time teaching job. It was just the orientation I needed – a CU philosophy bootcamp I referred to it afterwards. I learned about credit union history, the global movement, CU development, the system structure, CU’s mission, and bonded with the most amazing group of credit union people. I was hooked and stopped looking for a teaching job. Over five years later, I still talk to people I met in that six-day experience and am very grateful for the larger DE network when I need a hand.
