Real Solutions - A National Credit Union Foundation Program

The National Credit Union Foundation (NCUF) is now collecting data for its 2011 Credit Union Member Education Inventory. Sponsored by state credit union leagues and NCUF’s REAL Solutions program, the data and information gathered from credit unions will enable the credit union movement to demonstrate the power of financial education and counseling on the lives of members and communities across the country.

More than 20 individuals from Illinois credit unions are participating in the REAL Solutions Enhanced Financial Counseling Certification Program (FiCEP), as a result of support from the Illinois Credit Union (ICU) Foundation.

An enhanced version of the Credit Union Financial Counseling Certification Program (FiCEP) is available to credit union staff thanks to a collaboration between the National Credit Union Foundation’s REAL Solutions® effort, Credit Union National Association’s Center for Professional Development (CUNA CPD), and the Arkansas, Illinois, Mississippi, and Virginia credit union leagues.

After two weeks of much-needed vacation, I am happily back in my REAL Solutions seat. By far the most exciting news upon my return was the one announcing the NCUF Board’s decision to hire Bucky Sebastian as the new NCUF Executive Director.

Vehicle lending is credit unions “bread and butter”. Yet many credit unions have not discovered that serving borrowers with poor or thin file credit scores can be a great business opportunity. Credit unions that have balanced risk with pricing have successfully reached hundreds of low-wealth consumers while building reserves for the institution.

The following is a news release issued yesterday by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) announcing Steve Bosack’s return to the agency as Chairman Debbie Matz’ chief of staff.

Steve served as my deputy here at NCUF for four years and was one of the most dedicated, responsible, and professionally astute people that I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. While this is clearly a loss for NCUF, it is a great opportunity for Steve and a gain for the broader credit union movement.
